Raised in southern California, I moved to the Netherlands at the age of 24 to teach English at a general education high school in Ermelo.
For the next 40 some years I taught English as a foreign language at many types of Dutch secondary schools, and finally found my niche at the MBO. I am passionate about teaching English in the contexts that are relevant to the learners, be it an occupational context or just an area of interest. Practice makes perfect has been my motto throughout the years. Practicing English in a context that has the learner’s interest makes language learning quicker, more effective and more meaningful.
“Practice makes perfect
has been my motto throughout the years.”
I moved to the Netherlands in 1998 and started teaching here in 2002. Although I have been teaching English for more than 30 years I am still as passionate as I was when I started teaching.
.
The joy of enabling people to express themselves in English fuels my enthusiasm. Having learnt Dutch as an adult, I am well aware of the obstacles (real and imagined) faced by learners and I enjoy being able to lessen those fears and to help them to use English with confidence.
I believe in lifelong learning and enjoy teaching learners of English as much as I enjoy learning from them."
.
“I believe in
lifelong learning.”
